Who we are
The Bakersfield Chapter of Joni and Friends is dedicated to building a community of churches that are equipped to serve families affected by disability. For nearly a quarter of a century, Joni and Friends has been dedicated to extending the love and message of Christ to people who are affected by disability, whether it is the disabled person, a family member, or a friend. Our objective is to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of this group of people in practical ways.

What we do
Joni and Friends have many tools to serve the church and community.

Through The Roof: This is a training ministry that can equip lay leaders and Sunday school teachers for the work of disability ministry. This is also a network of churches and people that do the work of disability ministry.

Family Retreat: A special camp experience for the entire family This is a time of rest and fellowship with other families that are affected by disabilities.

Wheels For the World: This is the world wide mission project of Joni Eareckson Tada.

Special Delivery: Beautiful and special packages are prepared for people who are newly affected by a disability or going through a crisis. These packages are filled with spiritually uplifting materials that are provided by Joni and Friends.

Why we do it
We are called to build a network of Christians in our community to fulfill the Luke 14 mandate: by equipping people to recognize that God created each person to bring glory to Him and are necessary to complete the body of Christ.
